The thematic eMusic downloads for FebruaryJoy of joys, my eMu account ticked over and a download I went. For some reason, the downloaded albums revolved around a theme. You work it out. First there was Melbourne band Damnzal with a self titled album of great melodic metal. Then CJ Sleez with Back from the Brink. Another treasure trove of full tilt rock’n'roll. The find of the month. From the Netherlands, I present to you you The Riplets. The title of their album, Rock, is all you need to know about what they do. The song Love U Rock’n'Roll is my new fave song of the year. It should be yours as well. So let’s have a video. Back to the downloading. The next band was the Sex Slaves and Bite Your Tongue. Gender wise a bit of a slip, musically it fits right in. Then some hardcore metal with Kittie and their platter Oracle. I usually don’t like metal with hardcore throaty screaming but the contrast between that and the sweeter vocals is brilliant at times. Time for another vid. What I Always Wanted is pretty heavy but the melodic vocals over the screaming really work. Finally, ex-Runaways LitaFord, the 80s rock guitarist goddess. To be honest I can’t remember if I liked any of her tunes. But being eMu gave it a go with In Concert. The upshot of all this? Women rock. Oblig AC/DC: Snagged two Geordie tracks with the leftovers. They were the band Brian was in before joining the lads. |
