The Bon Scott Project

Via The Age, I’ve learned that the Freemantle Arts Centre has worked up the Bon Scott Project. About the project: The Bon Scott Project is a multi-faceted event that sees 19 artists celebrate and critique the life, the legacy, the letters and the loins of Bon Scott! Ronald Belford Scott was raised in North Fremantle before moving on to emblazon his name in rock ‘n’ roll’s history books as the lead singer of AC/DC from 1974-1980. Years after his death, he is still embraced as a ‘Fremantle boy’, with his legendary larrikinism appealing to an ever-growing worldwide fan base. A magnetic personality and a prolific writer, Scott’s influence can be seen on the skinny legs of fashionable young men about town to the bourbon swilling antics of rock’s finest leading ladies. The Project navigates and brings together the stories of fans, friends and fanatics through a variety of traditional and not-so-traditional media. Painting, sculpture, drawing, collage and photography will feature alongside installation, video work and, a FAC first, an online blog! On interest will be a collection of letters from Bon and The Ugly/Sexy Factor: Bon Scott & Fashion; a session on Bon’s influence on masculinity and style. The project’s blog is the Bon Scott Blog. Agnostic to AC/DC, Sydney artist Lucas Ihlein has immersed himself in all things Bon. It will be interesting to see what he makes of all this in the end. The project sounds like a great idea but there is just one thing missing. And that is Love At First Feel - The Bon Scott Multi-Media “Coming of Age” Song Cycle. I can’t believe no-one called. It woulda been a hit I tells ya.
