SpiralFrog

SpiralFrog is a new music downloading service set to launch later this year. According to an article in the SMH the songs will be free and the music targeted to those between 13-34. The songs will come from Vivendi’s Universal catalog and the business model: Kent said SpiralFrog’s business model is based on sharing income from advertising with content partners like Universal. The company’s research revealed that consumers are willing to “pay” for their content by watching non-intrusive, contextually-relevant, targeted advertising, Kent said. The catch is that it will only be available in the US and Canada. While this is not a bad idea what do us outside the demographics do? Are we to be just left forlorn with our well worn CDs? While there is a demographic for the over 35s say (to pick one at random) that prefer greatest hits and classic rock, there are plenty who do like to discover new music. Time for some niche marketing?
