This Musical genre is known to have originated in the beginning of the 20th century in African American Communities in the United States. Its stylistic origins can be traced back to the Blues, African American Folk Music, Ragtime and the atmosphere of New Orleans in the 1910s. During the late 19th century, the Atlantic Slave Trade brought thousands upon thousands of Africans to the United States.
