Friday Night Bootleg - Ozzy Osbourne (With Randy Rhoads) I Don’t KnowEnd of the week and we all need to rock. And what better than some vintage 80s metal with the late Ozzy Osbourne and the late Randy Rhoads. What…Ozzy is still alive? You can’t be serious? Yes, I have seen the TV show. Surely that is just momentum. He looks dead… Anyway, while a young Eddie Van Halen was tearing up the fretboards in LA, Randy Rhoads also was doing great things with six strings. Both guitarists raised the bar in terms of technique for rock guitar. Rhoads was also influential in the development of the neo-classical guitar movement. The tragedy is that Rhoads trod the stage all too briefly. He died in a plane crash aged 25. But his work with Ozzy influenced a legion of guitarists. I was never in Rhoads back when I was a lad learning guitar but there is a lot of merit in his style. Of course he had blazing speed but also a knack for melody and composition within the solos. It wasn’t just a mess of notes thrown together to impress. This is a great sounding boot of Ozzy and Rhoads in fine form back in 1981. Turn it up and break out the air guitar.
