The great Magic Sam Magic Sam was one of the greats of Chicago blues. His soaring voice and frenetic guitar had him destined to break out during the great blues revival of the 1960s. However a heart attack in December 1969 meant that Magic Sam was never destined to achieve the popularity and longevity of his compatriots such as Buddy Guy. One CD features a 1963 club set and the other his legendary and incendiary performance at the 1969 Ann Arbor Blues Festival. This track shows off his West Side soul of Magic Sam with the slow blues of Down So Long and then an intense run through the John Lee Hooker inspired Feel So Good. It is from a 1967 show at the University of Chicago that also featured his long time musical partner Shakey Jake.
