Deconstruction: Joe Pass Autumn Leaves Part TwoPart One can be found here. The second run through the Am7-D7-Gmaj7-Cmaj7-F#m7b5-B7-Em progression. Pass does a really cool thing with the melody. An inversion if you will as he descends in to notes the motif ends on, rather than approaching from below. A great move. Pass also doles out single note phrases to outline the chords. The Am7-D7 is a nice C major run. the Cmaj7-Cmaj7 is sketched but a run that ends up in a Cmaj7 arpeggio. For the F#m7b5-B7, a bluesy chordal move is used following by a nifty diminished chord run (Fdim-Adim-Cdim) that ends with another run in E harmonic minor. Some great ideas if the wannabe solo jazz artist here. -12-10-8---7----------------------10--8---7-------------------8-7-5-7-5-3S2- ----10-8-----10-8-7---------------------------7-10-8--------------5---5-3S2- --------------------9-7-7h9p7S6h7--------------------9------------5---5-3S2- ----------------------------------------0---0--------9-7----------4---4-2S1- ---------0-----------------------------------------------10-------------3S2- ------------------------------------------------------------8--------------- -1-5-8--------------------------------- -2-4-7---5-4-5p4-5-7-5---------------- -1-5-8-----------------4--------------- -2-4-7-------------------5------------- ---------------------------7-2-0------- -------0-------------------------3-0--- Putting the two transcribed parts (a little stiffly) together: Part three to follow over the weekend. It gets trickier with some finger pretzelin’ moves. |
