Contrafagotto and double bassoon are other names for the instrument contrabassoon. This instrument is part of the woodwind family. It is much larger and heavier than the bassoon (and twice in length) and produces a much lower sound. In fact, it has the deepest and lowest sound among the oboe family instruments.
