Booting Concerns About Live Bootlegs

With the increasing nifty gadgets available on mobile phones and their ease of communications with the Internet it was inevitable that copyright trouble would arise. The SMH has a slightly alarmist article on how taking a video via your phone at a concert and posting on YouTube could give you a criminal record under legislation that soon goes before the Senate. Bootlegging live concerts and rarities is nothing new. A Bob Dylan boot is credited as being the first rock bootleg in 1969 and from then it was one. The obsessive fan could and did spend many a dollar tracking down certain concert recordings well regarded by those in the know. There was a considerable market for bootlegs and some companies made good money out of manufacturing illicit recordings. (more…)
