Bob Brozman at Lizottes 10th Jan 2008

I was going to do a proper review of this show but time has got away from me a little. But I can say Bob was in fine form at Lizottes week. Gear wise, he had his usual National guitars, a Wweissenborn type lap steel (a Bear Creek guitar I bet) , another lap steel that apart from the regulat 6 strings running down the middle, had a multitude of extra strings, not unlike a sitar. And there was a charango. For two hours Bob entertained with the audience with musical and verbal alacrity and wit. And there was the odd musical lesson along the way with the audience taught a few rhythmic lessons here and there. A few pleasant surprises in the set list outside the usual pleasant surprises of Bob’s musical travelogue. There was a version of La Vie En Rose and a great Minnie the Moocher to close out the show with the requisite audience participation. During the break, Bob was outside selling CDs and a very approachable chap. After signing a CD he gladly consented to a photograph. Unfortunately it did not turn out that well but he was amiable and willing to entertain a fan’s request. Bob has left these shores but fret not. He will return for more dates in Oz in September/October. Do not miss him if he comes your way. He is one of the great acoustic guitarists and one of the world’s true musical treasures.
