This Musical genre is known to have originated in the beginning of the 20th century in African American Communities in the United States. Its stylistic origins can be traced back to the Blues, African American Folk Music, Ragtime and the atmosphere of New Orleans in the 1910s. Religious Music or sometimes called "sacred music" is a big musical genre that a lot of people take for granted because its something that is only heard in church and a few occasions outside. Fact is, this Genre generates a lot of income each year and artists churn out tons of songs and albums every few months.

Now that I think of it - it's like this every three years or so - suddenly, there's a rash of Beatles related music news - and it reminds me just how remarkable they were when I see that they are still not only viable all these years later - but in fact continue to groom new, younger listeners into life long fans.

Cailfornication, the song by the Red Hot Chili Peppers - we'd like to introduce you to the Showtime program, Californication. Now, shake hands - and then come out suing. The Chili Peppers have filed a lawsuit against the Showtime cable television channel over the title of its program starring David Duchovny. The band is claiming that the use of the word damages their identity. Huh?

Radiohead has taken the unprecedented step (at least for a band this well known) of releasing their new CD in digital format from their website only. They have completely bypassed the major record labels for this, and are not even putting a price on the music - asking instead that their fans pay whatever they are willing to pay for the music. It's available as a downloaded file, or shipped to you in a CD box.

The Cake Sale is a band featuring a loose and expansive collective of musicians and writers who have combined to create a 9-song CD of the same name on Oxfam Records. All profits will go to support Oxfams Make Trade Fair campaign and their overseas programme work.

A couple of weeks ago, I was heading out of Barnes & Noble when I caught a glimpse of a magazine that had Iron & Wine's Sam Beam on the cover. Being a big fan of his music, I stopped to take a peek at the magazine - and within about 15 seconds of peeking, I purchased the copy.

It's been 12 years since Sonic Youth guitarist Thurston Moore released a solo work - 1995's "Psychic Heart" - but much like Dave Grohl, Thurston is not leading an idle life between tours and recordings with his full time band. Among one of his many admirable endeavors is running his own website, Protest records - which is devoted to overturning existing music anti-piracy laws. He's been in countless super-star collective collaborations (including one with the afore mentioned Grohl - with whom he wrote and recorded the music soundtrack for the movie Backbeat along with members from R.E.M. and A

Tori Amos performed in Atlanta last night at the Fox Theater, a tremendous venue to see a concert like this - only I didn't see the show. In fact, I didn't even know she was coming to Atlanta until this morning - roughly 7-8 hours after she left.

"Alpacas Orgling" was released in 2006 while I was on hiatus, and so my stumbling across it this morning was purely by chance. The CD is a tribute to 70's pop icons Electric Light Orchestra, and in particular the writing and producing of Jeff Lynne - and it does a great job of paying homage while at the same time creating a pop gem of a recording that stands up extremely well on its own merits. With a clearly apparent movement towards sixties and early seventies pop sounds now being heard in a large amount of new releases, this CD fits in very nicely among the current mix.

Now that we have officially entered the final month of the year, it's always fun to look back and consider what music you ended up listening to the most, what was the best movie you saw, the best book that you read. I will kick start the discussion by listing my favorites - I would love to see some of yours!

Many bands in the annals of rock history have come back from various forms of extreme diversity, but few (if any) share the kind of obstacle Baltimore's Juniper Lane had to face. Critics from all over the globe acclaimed the band to be on the verge of becoming the next big thing with the release in 2003 of "Sirens From a Mile Back."

When musicians play on stage it moves people. There are many in the crowd who wish that they could do the same thing with music. Mark Knopfler possesses the characteristic of being able to win you over with him talent alone. The kind of artist I frankly just flat out enjoy listening to.

Overkill is one of those groups that have the ability to just bowl you over with their collective talent. The kind of musicians it's really a treat to be able to listen to.

If you're even mildly into Rock music you'll enjoy this album. Overall Back To Black is an a great release. I give it my double thumbs up. You will not be disappointed with one single track.
