My obsession with Hawaiian sounds still smoulders but I’ve veered off (or got back on track) to John Fahey for a while. The main reason I’ve been learning Leo Kottke’s arrangement of Jesu and mucking about, started exploring the middle section with a little chromaticism. So I decided to listen to Fahey for some ideas and lo, behold inspiration struck. Quite simple. After the rolling 9/8 of the main theme I’m thinking of cheating a little by adding a beat to make it 12/8 in the middle section and a more steady thump on the bass note. Add in a few little bluesy chromaticisms and we’ll hear. With a bit of luck I’ll record it over the weekend. There are a few bits that trick my fingers still but I’ll get them down. But I’m gonna play it on my Tele as my acoustic is strung for lap steel at the moment. Fahey playing Poor Boy’s Long Way from Home,
